Premiere of our new programme: Into the Melting Pot: lively & haunting Spanish music & new play

Fanfare please! Tonight we launch our new programme, Into the Melting Pot.  We’ve been rehearsing for the past week and are super excited about the magical blending Spanish medieval and Sephardic Jewish music & Clare Norburn’s new play which will transport you to Seville – the scent of orange blossom, spinning wheels and lamps at twilight….

There are still tickets to see it tonight at Brighton Early Music Festival: book tickets here: http://www.bremf.org.uk/tickets/index.htm

Thursday 9th November, 8pm at  St Paul’s Church, West Street, Brighton BN1 2RE (10 mins straight towards the sea from Brighton Station)

INTO THE MELTING POT

Spain, July 1492 – the deadline for the expulsion of the Jews is only days away.

At twilight a Jewish woman lights the lamps and starts up her spinning wheel. It is her last night in Seville.

She tunes into the voices of a community of Jewish, Christian and Muslim women down the centuries and from across the Spanish peninsula.

Women’s stories of integration, love, the rich cultural heritage of the Spanish peninsula and racial intolerance are played out to a soundtrack of plaintive Sephardic songs and lively medieval Cantigas and instrumentals.
