MEDIEVAL LULLABIES
During the first week of the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, The Telling began In Retreat: a Zoom workshop series which consisted of a free 30-minute workshop every Friday at 11am to help relieve the stress of isolation.
During the peak of the pandemic, The Telling were touched by reports of grandparents who were continually asking Downing Street when they could be reunited with their grandchildren. In response, The Telling dedicated some of the workshops to lullaby repertoire for participants to learn and then sing or reteach to their young relatives down the phone while they were unable to visit in person.
From 2022, the new live and in-person Lullaby programme features soprano Clare Norburn and harpist Jean Kelly performing lullabies from the 13th and 14th centuries, alongside traditional lullabies from Ireland, Scotland, Italy and Ukraine.
