In Retreat Carols

Get into the festive spirit by joining singer Ariane to learn how to sing a mixture of medieval and traditional carols from around Europe.

 

The In Retreat Carols workshop series was presented by the late mezzo Ariane Prüssner and originally streamed live for 6 weeks from 13 November – 18 December 2020. Each workshop is 30-45mins long.

 

Repertoire includes:

Woekshop 1: Es kommt ein Schiff, Veni, veni Emmanuel

Workshop 2: Es Ist Ein Rose Entsprungen, Patapan, People Look East

Workshop 3: O Jesulein Süss, Entre le bœuf et l’âne gris

Workshop 4: El noi de la mare, Il Est Né, Le Divin Enfant, The Boar's Head

Workshop 5: recap plus Ther Is No Rose

Workshop 6: recap plus Stille Nacht, Coventry Carol, Půjdem spolu do Betléma

 

Also included in this package are two extra live workshops which streamed ahead of two online Christmas concerts in 2020. Repertoire:

Lullay lullay Als I lay on Yoolis Night, Mirie It Is, Nowell Nowell Salutaion Carol (chorus only), Still Still Still, Gaudete! and Lullay my child (chorus only).

 

This package includes recordings of each of the workshops, scores and practice lyric videos.

  • The Telling began the In Retreat workshop series in response to the first lockdown in 2020. They were held live every Friday morning on Zoom and presented by the late, great mezzo Ariane Prüssner who sadly died before her time in May 2021.

    The workshops are beginner-friendly and being able to read a score is not essential.
